Adam Leaves calc.org
I am sad to announce that after over five years of developing calc.org, I am finally retiring from calc.org.
I have immensely enjoyed working on calc.org and its predecessor, Dimension-TI, throughout my high school years. It was incredibly rewarding to see my growth as a programmer clearly reflected in the growth of the site. I spent thousands of hours improving, redoing, and infamously "overhauling" the site, and I never regretted any of the time I spent on it.
For the first 4 years or so, I couldn't imagine ever wanting to leave the site. Even though my interest in programming calculators declined as the years passed, I still had great dedication to the website. Recently, however, I have realized that the website will not play a significant role in the future of my career, and it is time to move on. Five years is a long time to run any one project, especially on a volunteer basis, and I suppose I have burnt out. In addition, I have been busy with college and I have been involved in a variety of other projects that coincide more with my current interests and my future career path.
Many people have predicted that the site would die when I finally decided to leave. If I agreed, then this announcement would read "calc.org Shuts Doors," because I would not allow the site to continue in a disgraceful form. However, I an confident that my successors, lead by Nate Buda, will continue to enhance the site and continue the high standard of quality and innovation that I have tried to emphasize over the years.
As not to bore you with excessive reminiscing and rambling, I will close. Thanks to all who have made calc.org everything that it has been. It has truly been a life changing experience, and I couldn't have done it without the support of loyal visitors, helpers, and staff members. I'll surely be lurking on the site for a while, and I'd be glad to answer any questions you have about the site or my decision. Feel free to post below or E-mail me. I wish everyone the best of luck.
