The decision to disable editing was actually made a long time ago as a compromise to completely pulling the plug on the site; the information will still be available as long as Wikidot is willing to host the site. I don't want to sound selfish, but TI Story was started and grown almost entirely through my efforts, so I will not be handing the site off to someone else. I believe WikiTI has a history section, you could always contribute there…

Feel free to use animated screenshots… There is still 192.5 MB free from the original 300 MB limit, so it's not really an issue at this point…

I noticed that there is a 300MB limit on space for files to be uploaded.. Should I avoid using Wabbit Emu animated screenshots if that's the case? They're great quality, but they tend to get over 1MB in size pretty quickly.. :/

I like it, however maybe the logo is a bit too small ? What about having the calculator above the text so that both can be a bit bigger ?

The old logo for the site has been replaced with a better-looking, more relevant logo which was graciously created by Robert Kuhfss (NanoWar) of Revolution Software.

In addition, the black background color for the site has been replaced with a more subtle grey texture, which makes the site and content easier to use and read.

What do you guys think of the changes?

Hmm, that sounds nice !
Also what about automatically linking notable releases of certain groups/people with the pages (adding an entry, etc) ?
Somehow that would make the entire site work better together.

You're right, it would be difficult to list every product; that would basically require going through all of the individual file directories at ticalc.org.

What I was thinking for organization was moving each product category to its own individual page, so there would be games, programs, etc.; and then breaking it down even further into subcategories, such as shells, libraries, etc., using the same structure that ticalc.org uses.

One other thing that would be nice is a sorting mechanism based on language, calculator, and author. For example, you could display all of the TI-Basic games for the TI-83/83+ calculators by SiCoDe Software.

How does that sound? Any things you guys would add?

Well, for the (computer) software category I would pick programs based on their usefulness and amount of use. For example, TiLP is basically the only competitor for TI's linking software. Without TiLP .. nobody developing for calculator on Linux would be able to be as productive as now. It's also a life saver when TI's products don't work.

Regarding games and software for calculators, it is impossible to list all of them. So indeed, maybe stuff that got featured + top downloaded programs ever. This way we have a list of technically advanced stuff plus stuff people actually like.

Regarding the layout, maybe each category should be in a 'box' (a bit like on the home screen). This way it might look more organized.

I've noticed that there has been some interest in working on the products. As you can see from its current state, I never really got that far with putting together a complete list of products on the page. One of the main reasons is because I really wrestled with the question of what products should be included and which should be left out, as there has been an overwhelming number of products released by the TI community over the years. Moreover, what criteria does one use to decide the in/exclusion of a product? A ticalc.org news feature? A ticalc.org POTM/POTW/POTY award? Good graphics? Good code? Number of downloads?

What do you guys think? How would you design/organize the page?

Hey guys,

Sorry I took a few days to reply to my email, I get a bit lazy checking it sometimes lol. But yeah I have noticed this site and been checking it fairly regularly, and I'm definitely happy to do some kind of interview :)

And Burr I just want to say I think you've done a great job with this site, it's great to see a central point like this where information on the community, past & present, can all be put together. Whenever I get a chance I'll be sure to add bits and pieces of information about whatever I can recall :)

Burr, you did really did a great job. I know there are people out there that appreciate your efforts too, but they just don't take the time to help a bit (or don't think they need to).

That's good to hear about James Vernon…

I feel good about what I was able to accomplish with this site, considering that it is noticeably better and more complete than anything else out there for the TI community history, but there is no point wasting any more time and effort on something that people don't appreciate. I should also say thanks to you for your involvement, as you're the only person that has taken an active interest in the site.
