Forum posting statistics

Discussion forums were always very popular in the TI community and there were always many active ones at the same time. In the entire community combined together, over 2 million posts were made since 2002. However, due to the combination of various factors (for example, repeated conflicts, server problems, inactive staff, etc), but not necessarily all of them, activity in the TI community has moved from websites to others over the years, with overall periods of ups and downs. Sometimes, forums even split into two different sites or closed outright. Also, in recent years, posting activity has been more concentrated at a smaller amount of locations and slowly shifting away from forums to real-time chat mediums such as Discord and IRC.

The yearly posting statistics below were grabbed manually, often from post IDs or archive.org, except when statistics were publicly available. No script were used to achieve the collection of this data. As a result, the data is not always 100% accurate and some statistics are missing (denoted by question marks). Also, almost all active calculator forums had non-calculator-related discussion at one point or another. However, it should give you an idea of how the TI community forum activity evolved over the years:

IRC and site-embedded shoutboxes

In addition to forums, IRC (internet-relay chat), especially the EFNet network, has been very popular in the TI community since the early 90's, and activity has moved from place to place over the years, like with forums. Some TI websites now have a Discord server and Discord servers with no associated website nor IRC channel opened as well. The following statistics are approximate and includes both IRC and non-IRC chat rooms that had a significant level of activity.
