Programmers Anonymous (PA) was a TI-Basic programming group for the TI-89 and TI-92+ graphing calculators, although some of the members did release assembly programs under the group banner. They were also one of the sites that got hosting through ticalc.org.

Group Significance

They released a few notable programs and games including Simon 89, Guardian, Instant Messenger, and Risk 89, with the latter even being featured on ticalc.org. They also released a comprehensive TI-Basic programming guide for the TI-89 and TI-92 that included several tips, tricks, and techniques that the TI-Basic community had compiled on the TI-Basic mailing list on ticalc.org. They also had some interesting projects under development:

  • Connect Four — Uses an artificial intelligence learning algorithm so it never makes the same mistake twice.
  • May Day — A very nice RPG featuring a complete level editor which allows you to change vital statistics and the level itself.
  • Dragon Warrior — Cool RPG based on the original Nintendo RPG with the same name.

They also started a TI-Calcs Webring to connect with other TI-Basic sites from around the TI community.

Group History

(Taken from PA homepage)

I know what you're thinking. "It's BASIC. How good can it be?" Well, Programmers Anonymous is attempting to change that misconception. BASIC, especially on the TI-89 and TI-92, can actually be quite complex and result in some excellent programs. We are founded on this principle. (Well… that and the principle that none of us has time to learn assembly.) If you don't believe me, look at the source to Risk.
